A root canal is a simple treatment that can save your natural tooth and prevent the need for dental implants or bridges. During a root canal, the pulp inside the affected tooth – contaminated due to trauma, decay or cracks – is removed and the area is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. A temporary restoration is placed until your dentist places the permanent restoration. Local anesthesia is used, and most patients are able to drive home after treatment and return to their normal routine.
