Why Choose Our Practice?
Reason 1: Experience
On average, endodontists perform nearly 25 root canal treatments a week, while general dentists perform less than two.
Reason 2: Efficiency
Because they limit their practice solely to endodontic treatment, endodontists are efficient and precise. This equates to positive experiences and faster healing.
Reason 3: Availability
Most endodontists offer tremendous flexibility in accommodating emergency cases, so delays in treatment are kept to a minimum and patients can be relieved of dental pain quickly.
Reason 4: Advanced Technology
Many endodontists use state-of-the-art technology such as operating microscopes, digital imaging, ultrasonic instrumentation and fiber optics, to treat their patients quickly and comfortably.
Today, getting root canal treatment is often no more uncomfortable than having a filling.
Frequently Asked Questions about Endodontics:
What is Endodontics?
Endodontics is a specialized field of dentistry recognized by the American Dental Association that focuses on the treatment of the tooth’s pulp (the soft tissue inside the root canal) and the surrounding tissues. When you look at your tooth, the visible part above the gum line is called the crown. Beneath the gum line, the root extends down into the jawbone. Inside the root, there’s a channel filled with soft tissue, nerves, and blood vessels known as the pulp.
If bacteria from decay, gum disease, a tooth fracture, or other issues infect the pulp, it can cause significant damage. An endodontist (root canal specialist) removes the infected pulp to save the tooth and prevent further damage. After successful treatment, the tooth continues to function normally.
I’m Worried About X-rays. Should I Be?
No need to worry! While x-rays are essential during endodontic treatment, we use digital radiography—a modern, non-film system that reduces radiation exposure by up to 90% compared to traditional dental x-rays. Digital images are of high quality, can be easily optimized, archived, and shared with other healthcare providers through email or CD-ROM.
What About Infection Control?
You can feel confident in our strict infection control practices. We follow the highest safety standards set by OSHA, the CDC, and the American Dental Association. All instruments are sterilized using autoclave technology, and we employ barrier techniques to ensure a completely safe environment, minimizing any risk of infection.
What Happens After Treatment?
Once your root canal is complete, we’ll send a detailed record of your treatment to your restorative dentist. Be sure to follow up with their office within a few weeks for a permanent restoration, like a crown, to protect your tooth. Endodontic treatments and microsurgeries rarely cause complications. However, should any issues arise, we are always available to address them.
What New Technologies Are Being Used?
We’re proud to offer cutting-edge technology to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.
Operating Microscopes:
In addition to digital x-rays, we use specialized operating microscopes. These provide high magnification and fiber optic illumination, allowing us to see fine details inside the tooth. Plus, we have a small video camera on the microscope that records images of your tooth, helping us document the procedure and provide a clearer diagnosis.
